Maintaining a Healthy Work-Life Balance

alejandro-escamilla-2-300x200As work-life balance is getting harder to maintain, partly due to the ever-evolving technology that is available to access around the clock, I would like to talk about ways of disconnecting to improve your work habits. Being good at resting is an important component in achieving a well-balanced work-life-schedule.

  • Unplug. As work day seems to never end, find a suitable time when you are able to shut your phone off and enjoy the moment, whether it’s with your family, friends or pets.
  • Don’t be a perfectionist. As you get older it’s harder to maintain perfectionist tendencies. It could be very disruptive to your everyday activities.
  • Tweak your daily routine. Delegate some of the tasks that cause you stress. New structure could alleviate some of our daily stress.
  • Exercise. Even if we are too busy, we make time for important things like eating and sleeping. Yet we ignore one of the most crucial needs – exercise – the biggest stress reducer. Make sure to put that on your calendar, as little as 10 min/day counts.
  • Identify what’s most important in your life. This list will differ for everyone, so make sure it truly reflects your priorities, not someone else’s. Then it will be easier to determine what needs to be trimmed from the schedule.
  • Start small. Don’t make vast changes to your daily life, instead take it slow and start small. Eventually you will build up a new balanced, stress free work-life structure.
